Ben Mokheseng - Solar Roof Tiles: A Macro-Economic Model. Thesis submitted in fulfillment of a Mphil in Sustainable Development Planning and Management, March 2010 (passed cum laude). This thesis is a comparable cost effectiveness analysis of two ways of providing energy to one million South African households: one way is to connect these households to coal-fired power via the grid, and the other is to fit them with grid-connected 3 KW solar roof tile systems plus solar hot water heaters. The research showed that over a 20 year life-cycle, it is cheaper to supply them with renewable energy via grid-tied solar roof tiles plus solar water heaters. |
